Hello CD Jr, I last interviewed you prior to MLG Raleigh. What have you been up to since then?
Nothing much really just playing video games and going to the gym.

You recently competed at Seasons Beatings and T13, talk about your experiences at both tournaments.
Well my experience at SB outside of MK was awesome. I had a lot of fun hanging out with Dieminion, Yipes, and 2 of my friends Euri and Victor. I was kind of disappointed with my performance in MK but it was my fault because I wasn't playing the game for 2 weeks because I was playing Tekken. However I think Wafflez and especially Dizzy leveled up a ton so shout outs to those guys for grinding it out and getting better. I had a lot of fun at T13, it was a great tournament and Russell ran it perfectly so shout outs to him. I also want to say that I freaking love Canada and can’t wait to go back and hang out with K Frog, Jer, Zaf and all the Canadian players.

First was Seasons Beatings, looking back, how did you feel about your overall performance?
Like shit! But oh well I guess I can’t win them all right?

Talk about your set with GGA Dizzy and what exactly went wrong for you at SB.
Everything went wrong my spacing was bad, I dropped a lot of combos, my footsie game was bad I was playing like shit and dizzy was playing on point. I basically got outplayed.

Despite losing to Dizzy, you managed to rally through losers bracket and ended up making the switch to Jax, why did you opt to switch from Kung Lao?
I switch to Jax cause when I got send to losers I didn’t care about winning anymore because I was mad with the way I was playing plus I was mad with the whole monitor thing not having sound so I couldn’t hear anything.

Talk about your set with GGA Wafflez, why did you stick with Jax when you also had Kabal and Kung Lao there that you could’ve utilized?
Like I said on the last question. But real talk though if I was playing Jax like before Wafflez wouldn’t have won 1 round against my Jax. I mean he was poking me with d1 and d3 and I wasn’t poking back? What? Me? One of the players who started using pokes as a way of offense and defense? You can tell I was playing like shit. also waking up with dash punch all the time when I knew smoke can just buffer d4 all day and full punish it lol.

How did you transition from Seasons Beatings to T13? What aspects of your game did you work on with Kung Lao that leveled you up as fast as you did?
After SB I just started practicing more and more with my brothers because I want to get back to my old dominating days and that's exactly what I’m going to do.

You performed extremely well against REO in your winners finals set as well as your grand finals set, how did it feel to see your Kung Lao flourish against arguably the best Kabal in the world?
LOL honestly it felt like casuals just for the fact that REO and I have been on that same spot so many times but it could’ve gone either way like I always say. REO and I always go back and forth.

Did you feel as if you were the underdog going into your matches against REO given his recent success at MLG Raleigh?
Me? The underdog? Nah I don’t think so.

REO reset your grand finals series after 3-0, what was going through your head when he brought it down to a final first to 3 set after beating him in winners finals?
I was actually laughing when that happened because I felt for so many random nomad dash and after that I just decided to be more patient next set.

Will there ever be a clear-cut winner in the friendly saga of REO vs. CD Jr?
I feel like REO is better than me in MK but I’m a better all around fighting gamer.

This is something I’ve always wondered; do you (as a player) go back and watch footage from your previous tournaments? If so, do you study your bad tendencies and work on them?
Of course I do I don’t see why any player wouldn’t go back and see footage of when they lost so they can work on things they did wrong or did not do right.

Will MLG Dallas be the ‘last hurrah’ for competitive Mortal Kombat?
For me? Nah I will still support this game at every tourney I o until it dies which isn’t happening anytime soon. I just hope other players still come out to the community majors and support the game they love.

Looking ahead to ‘Injustice: Gods Among Us’, how do you feel about the game after having the opportunity to test it out at the New York ComicCon?
I already like it more than MK that all I have to say.

Where do you see it existing among the Fighting Game Community? Will it be received more negatively among the hardcore fans like Mortal Kombat or will it be a treated as a legitimate front running fighting game?
Hopefully a lot of players try it out and take it serious because I know it will be a good game. But we can only wait till the game comes out and see how well it does in the competitive scene.

From the characters you’ve tested, who do you see yourself maining when the game releases in April of 2013?
THE FLASH! And Quinn. I also like Green Arrow a lot and hopefully they put black Adam in the game.

Do you think Injustice plays like Mortal Kombat? Will MK players be able to make a smooth transition from MK to Injustice?
I think Injustice is like a mix of SF and MK and players from both games should feel comfortable going into Injustice.

Let’s talk a little about MLG Dallas; will you be using 100% Kung Lao no matter what happens? Or is there a chance that we will see you make a switch if you deem it necessary?
I was going to go all Kung Lao but I might just might, also use Kenshi.

Is Kung Lao THE character that you’ve been working on in preparation for MLG Dallas?
Yes sir I’ve been playing Lao nonstop. I also have been playing Kabal just to teach my bros the match up.

Is there anything particular about the way that you play Kung Lao that makes you different from the rest?
I’m less RANDOM! And like to play safer against low hitbox characters like Kitana, Sonya, and Cage.

How would you feel about going head-to-head with a Kung Lao player like Perfect Legend?
I feel like my Lao is already better than his and if he doesn’t think so we can do a ft 10 mirror match for $100 but knowing PL he won’t do it.

After T13, where do you think your confidence level will be at if you come across REO at MLG Dallas?
Same. Like I said we always go back and forth I really can get confident against REO or else I will lose.

Do you have your sights set on anyone specific that you badly want to play in competition?
No not really. I just want to go compete and try to win. I do have mission here like I did in Columbus. I promise to donate $500 to Kerri Hoskins (Sonya) twins which suffer from severe cerebral palsy. When I read the story about her kids it really touched me and I want to help as much as I can.

Before I let you go, is there anything that I didn’t cover that you would like to? Any shout-outs?
Shouts out to all my VSM friends and all my Canadian friends. Shout outs to my sponsors DMG and NOS for everything they do for me and shout outs to all the MK players who still support the game, you guys are the best! Oh and NY is going win Dallas :)

Thanks for the time Emmanuel, I wish you luck at MLG Dallas and we will have to do this again.
